THE SCIENTIFIC MIRACLES OF THE QURAN IN BRIEF

Ever since the dawn of mankind, we have sought to understand nature and our place in it. In this quest for the purpose of life many people have turned to religion. Most religions are based on books claimed by their followers to be divinely inspired, without any proof. Islam is different because it is based upon reason and proof.

There are clear signs that the book of Islam, the Quran, is the word of God and we have many reasons to support this claim:

· There are scientific and historical facts found in the Quran which were unknown to the people at the time, and have only been discovered recently by contemporary science.

· The Quran is in a unique style of language that cannot be replicated, this is known as the ‘Inimitability of the Quran.’

VIRTUES OF MEMORIZING THE QURAN

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is reported to have said:

 A person who recites the Quran and has memorised it, will be with noble scribes (Angels/Prophets, in Jannah)”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 4937)

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
It will be said to the one who memorised the Quran, ‘Recite and ascend and recite just as you would recite in the world, for your abode (in Jannah) will be the last verse you recite”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2914, Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1464, Declared authentic –hasanun sahih– by Imam Tirmidhi)

VIRTUES OF RECITING SURAH MULK

Abu Hurairah narrated that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “A surah of the Qur’an with thirty aayahs kept interceding for its reciter until he was forgiven! It is Tabaarakalladhee bi-yadihil-mulk.”[1]

It is supported by a similar hadeeth of Anas whose isnaad was authenticated by Ibn Hajar and others.

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said about Surah al-Mulk: “It is the averter (of the punishment of the grave).”[2]

‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ood said: “It is the rescuer from the punishment of the grave.”[3]

The correct implementation of these scholars advise involves:
– reciting the surah slowly and correctly to the best of one’s ability;
– understanding its meanings;
– believing in whatever it contains;
– putting the teachings it contains into practice;
– propagating its message to others according to one’s knowledge and ability;
– and persevering through any harm.

SCIENTIFIC MIRACLES IN THE QURAN – MOUNTAINS

MOUNTAINS ARE LIKE TENT PEGS

In geology, the phenomenon of ‘folding’, is a recently discovered fact. Folding is responsible for the formation of mountain ranges. The earth’s crust, on which we live, is like a solid shell, while the deeper layers are hot and fluid, and thus inhospitable to any form of life. It is also known that the stability of the mountains is linked to the phenomenon of folding, for it was the folds that were to provide foundations for the reliefs that constitute the mountains.

Geologists tell us that the radius of the Earth is about 6,035 km and the crust on which we live is very thin, ranging between 2 to 35 km. Since the crust is thin, it has a high possibility of shaking. Mountains act like stakes or tent pegs that hold the earth’s crust and give it stability.

IT’S OUR OFFSPRING AT STAKE!!!

Upbringing our children in current times is truly challenging. If nothing is done soon, one cannot imagine how worse it could get. There’s nothing more sad than “losing” your child.

Tips by Khalifah ‘Umar ibn’Abdil ‘Aziz

I feel that Khalifah ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdil ‘Aziz’s (rahimahullah) advice below is very apt and pertinent.

Khalifah ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz (rahimahullah) wrote the following instructions to his children’s mentor (teacher)

MATHEMATICIAN WHO CHALLENGED QUR’AN

Dr Gary Miller (Now Dr Abdul Ahad) was a very active missionary and was very knowledgeable about the Bible. This man likes mathematics so much, that’s why he likes logic. One day, he decided to read the Qur’an to try to find any mistakes that he might take advantage of while inviting Muslims to convert to Christianity. He expected the Qur’an to be an old book written 14 centuries ago, a book that talks about the desert and so on. He was amazed from what he found.

He discovered that this Book had what no other book in the world has. He expected to find some stories about the hard time that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) had, like the death of his wife Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) or the death of his sons and daughters. However, he did not find anything like that. And what made him even more confused is that he found a full “Sura” (chapter) in the Qur’an named “Mary” that contains a lot of respect to Mary (peace be upon her) which is not the case even in the books written by Christians nor in their Bibles. He did not find a Sura named after “Fatimah”(the prophet’s daughter) nor “Aishah” (the Prophet’s wife), may Allah (God) be pleased with both of them. He also found that the name of Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) was mentioned in the Qur’an 25 times while the name of “Muhammad” (Peace Be Upon Him) was mentioned only 4 times, so he became more confused. He started reading the Qur’an more thoroughly hoping to find a mistake but he was shocked when he read a great verse which is verse number 82 in Surat Al  Nisa’a (Women) that says:

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SYRIAN WOMAN

read time: 4 min

I walked up the stairs along with my daughter Nour in the poorly lit corridor. I entered the room shyly and in broken Arabic greeted all the sisters in the room. A family in this Syrian village had invited me for dinner and I looked forward to such invites. Not only because I finally got to eat well-prepared food but also because I met new sisters in such gatherings. Some of these sisters and their stories in this war-ravaged country astonished me, and some ingrained themselves in me, forever changing me.

After we had eaten, a sister brought in a frail man and gently sat him against the cushions on the wall. I was struck by the noor emanating from the sister’s face. I stared at her in wonderment of why her face lit like a bright light. The brother had a white beard humbling resting on his face and the softness of his face resembled that of a child.

VIRTUES OF THE QUR’AAN

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah () saying, “Read the Qur’an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.”(Muslim).

Uthman bin ‘Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah () said, “The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.”
(Al-Bukhari).

Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah () said, “The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward.”
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Ibn ‘Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet () said: “Envy is justified in regard to two types of persons only: a man whom Allah has given knowledge of the Qur’an, and so he recites it during the night and during the day; and a man whom Allah has given wealth and so he spends from it during the night and during the day.”
(Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah () said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.”
(At- Tirmidhi).

THE QUR’AN & THE SOUL’S ALCHEMY

The Prophet, peace be upon him, remarked, ‘The best of you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it to others.’1

For Muslims, not withstanding the sheer beauty of its composition and its cadences, the Qur’an is a repository of revealed teachings, a roadmap for the journey through life, and a fountain of timeless truths to meditate upon; deepening endlessly one’s sense of the divine glory. Moreover, the Qur’an is of God: His Word, Wisdom and Divine Will. God says:

We send down in the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers. [17:82]

O mankind! There has come to you a counsel from your Lord, and a healing for what is in the breasts. [10:57]

SCIENTISTS ON THE QUR’AAN

Keith L. Moore

Professor Emeritus, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Toronto. Distinguished embryologist and the author of several medical textbooks, including Clinically Oriented Anatomy (3rd Edition) and The Developing Human (5th Edition, with T.V.N. Persaud).

Dr. Moore was a former President of the Canadian Association of Anatomists, and of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. He was honoured by the Canadian Association of Anatomists with the prestigious J.C.B. Grant Award and in 1994 he received the Honoured Member Award of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists “for outstanding contributions to the field of clinical anatomy.”

For the past three years, I have worked with the Embryology Committee of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, helping them to interpret the many statements in the Qur’an and Sunnah referring to human reproduction and prenatal development. At first I was astonished by the accuracy of the statements that were recorded in the 7thcentury AD, before the science of embryology was established. Although I was aware of the glorious history of Muslim scientists in the 10th century AD, and some of their contributions to Medicine, I knew nothing about the religious facts and beliefs contained in the Qur’an and Sunnah.”[2]

THE MIRACLE OF THE QUR’AAN

By Khalid Baig

... For only then we truly live. Otherwise we only pretend to live….’

It happened at an international inter-faith conference. The organizers decided to end the conference with readings from the scriptures of major religions, done by followers of other religions. As it happened, an Arab Christian read a passage from the Qur’aan. He was a good reciter. Every one seemed to be moved by his heart-rending reading, including the reciter himself. Immediately afterward, prominent Muslim thinker and writer, Maulana Waheeduddin Khan, who narrated this story, asked him: “Do you think Qur’aan is the Word of God?” In a moment of truth he said: “Yes.” But, then, he had second thoughts so he added: “But only for the Arabs.”

QUR’AAN: WITNESS THE MIRACLE

By Khalid Baig

Night after night in Ramadan, the believers witness a unique spectacle at mosques around the world. They stand in special Taraweeh prayers in which the prayer leader will recite the entire Quran from memory. Those who have accomplished this extraordinary feat of memorizing all of the 6246 verses are not a handful of devotees but there are hundreds of thousands of them. Most, just like most Muslims in the world today, do not speak Arabic. Yet they have painstakingly learnt to pronounce each and every word of the Quran correctly.

The phenomenon is not a result of some religious resurgence that would pass. From the very first day that the Quran was revealed, it was memorized. And the number of those who have memorized it has been increasing ever since. Memorization of Quran has been going on all through the centuries, all over the globe wherever Muslims are.

The Qur’an – The Final Revelation to Mankind

What is the Qur’an?

The Word of God

The Qur’an is the literal word of God, The Almighty (Allah in Arabic), revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the Angel Gabriel.

The revelation of The Book is from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.”Qur’an 39:1

Guidance for Mankind

The Qur’an is “a guidance for mankind… and the distinction (between right and wrong).” Qur’an 2:185 It provides direction to help mankind judge between right and wrong, without which, man would surely be in loss.
